La Cañada Council PTA is thrilled to recognize the following individuals and organizations with 2018 Founders Day Honorary Service Awards for their outstanding contributions to our schools and community as a whole:
- Soo Kim Choi
- Kelly McWilliams
- Committee for Measure LC (Stephanie Fossan and Josh Epstein, Co-Chairs)
Please join us in celebrating these volunteers, along with honorees from all five LCUSD PTA units, at our annual Founders Day Honorary Service Awards on Thursday, March 15 at 6:30 pm in the LCHS auditorium.
Congratulations and thank you to our fantastic honorees!
PTA Founders Day Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements and dedication of school staff members, parent volunteers, and/or community members from across the district.
If you would like to recognize a deserving teacher, staff member, parent, or community member/organization that has gone above and beyond in his/her service to our kids and our schools, please complete a nomination form, which is available by clicking HERE. While most people focus on making school-specific nominations, we'd like to urge you to consider submitting Council-level nominations as well, which highlight individuals or organizations that have positively impacted the La Canada Unified School District as a whole.
The deadline for submitting nominations is Monday, November 13th. Please refer to your school PTA websites for submission details. If you wish to submit a Council-level nomination, you may email it to our Founders Day Chair by CLICKING HERE.
This year's award winners will be honored at an evening ceremony on March 15, 2018 at LCHS.
For those of you who were unable to attend last week's LCUSD Governing Board Candidates' Forum, we have posted it here in its entirety. Thanks to Kevin DeSimone and Mark Siebert at LCHS for their assistance in filming the event, and to the League of Women Voters - Pasadena Area for their guidance and oversight.
Thanks to Mr. Kevin DeSimone, LCTV teacher at La Cañada High School, last Monday night's candidates' forum was filmed in its entirety. We are in the process of producing it to be posted on this website, so please stay tuned!
The La Cañada Council PTA, along with the League of Women Voters - Pasadena Area, will be hosting a public forum for the five candidates running for the LCUSD Governing Board election. The event will be held at the La Cañada High School auditorium on Monday, October 2 at 7:00 pm. All interested members of the public are invited to attend. In addition to hearing prepared statements from the candidates, attendees will have the opportunity to submit written questions.
The League of Women Voters is dedicated to making democracy work by offering services to communities with the purpose of informing and encouraging voters to take advantage of their right to vote. As a non-partisan organization, the La Cañada Council PTA neither supports nor opposes candidates for public office. It does, however, aim to help disseminate as much factual, objective information as possible during election campaigns so that voters may make more informed choices on issues that affect our community's children and youth.
For more information about the forum, please contact La Cañada Council PTA President Melissa Mazin at: email@example.com.

At the national PTA convention, held in Las Vegas in June, two of La Canada's finest artists were honored with awards for their work: Charlie Matarese from LCE PTA received an Award of Merit in the Primary Division of Film Production, and Maya Purdy from PCR PTA received an Award of Merit in the Primary Division of Music Composition. You can read more about the national awards by clicking here. Congratulations to Charlie and Maya, and all of La Canada's talented student artists!
The La Cañada Council PTA Senior Scholarship is given each year to a graduating senior who demonstrates superior leadership skills, a commitment to community service, and a willingness to work to the best of his/her academic ability. Kara Bradley, this year’s recipient of this scholarship, has shown all of the above characteristics, and more.
She is an accomplished and decorated diver, which is an impressive achievement in and of itself. But we at PTA Council were most interested in her passion for helping others, as demonstrated through her volunteer work with Teens for the Advancement of Children’s Hospital here at LCHS, as a leader with National Charity League, and through her Girl Scout Gold Award project, “Finding Compassion for the Homeless.”
Kara embodies the spirit of PTA in her work to engage, empower and advocate for children, families and community, and we can’t wait to see what she does in her next four years at SMU. Congratulations, Kara!
